By sea kayak
Kayak the Abel Tasman coastline to Awaroa. From Totaranui is approximately 45 minutes however from Marahau it is 2 days and is only recommended for the very experienced.
On foot
Walk the famous Abel Tasman track from either Marahau or Totaranui. From Totaranui the estuary at Awaroa can only be crossed two hours either side of low tide.
From Marahau there is a narrow estuary channel at Onetahuti Beach, which may be crossed at approximately three hours either side of low tide. To plan your walking excursion and estuary crossing, visit Land Information New Zealand's site for tide times. To access information choose Nelson at the port, and subtract 20 minutes to give you a more accurate tide timetable for the Abel Tasman National Park and Awaroa area.
